Until The Holiday Snaps
It wasn't until I saw the holiday snaps that I realised ... it was there, staring back at me ... couldn't deny it ... that was what I looked like ... no wonder I felt rubbish! 
The trigger? I'll tell you…

I was on holiday in Antigua with friends a few years ago, we were having a blast, enjoying the warmth of the sun, the lovely food and all the cocktails on offer were just delicious. Heaven right ... Yes!

But something was missing from this ideal picture ... the beautiful, confident girl that felt amazing in her bikini, the girl who was more than happy to wear no towel as she ran the gauntlet along the beach to the sea.

Then we started to share holiday snaps, I still feel sick thinking about this moment. 
It wasn't until I saw them that I realised, that something had to change. I was heading to a place where I was likely to feel older than I should, fat, frumpy, unhappy, much heavier than I should be for the long-term, this was no longer a blip ... yes I felt rubbish!! 

Now I know that we all tend to be more critical of ourselves than others but for me, this wasn't being critical this was me looking at myself for the first time in a long time. 

I had to take control and get my shizzle together! 

How could I have let myself get to this point? 
How did I miss the signs?
How could my husband find me attractive?
How could my clients take me seriously?
How could I take myself seriously?

This was a huge revelation to me, thank goodness for photos right? 

They don't lie ... 

So as soon as we got home, I took the first step, took a photo of myself in my underwear (yes that was hard) then I found a photo of myself that made me feel proud (I was younger, care free and happy) and then I started doing loads of research into how to shift the flab in a healthy, sustainable way. I was tempted to starve myself but I knew that wasn't the answer.

You see I got to the point where I realised the extra 2.5 stone I was carrying was holding me back, I had no energy, my sex drive was non-existent, I was heavier on the scales than ever before, and if I was really honest, my health and fitness was spiralling out of control, the girl that had become physically and mentally old, that had aged before her time, was looking back at me in those photos.

She had to go!!

So my mission, my commitment to myself (in my early 40's) was to feel young, sexy and fun again!

I set about on my journey to get my body back, to get my health under control and to take back my time because I realised I wasn't looking after me. The lessons I've learned along the way are the things I share with you. The formula I've discovered, the series of steps I took to get myself back are exactly what I share and do you know what? If I can do this so can you! There is nothing special about me and I know we share a drive and determination to get there.

We put off doing what we should to look after ourselves first … no, I'm not talking about having something to eat or taking a shower, I'm talking about valuing our OWN TIME MORE …  actually dealing with stress and having a plan in place to ensure we are in great shape so we can do more and live more engaged more active lives.

I totally get this, as you know I have been there, done it and have several t-shirts to prove it. 
I have also recognised the impact this lack of time spent on me had on my life ...

It reality it starts with the small things and slowly but surely we end up, well you know, exactly where we don't want to be! This slow steady erosion of our time of ourselves is not ok! 

Small things like rather than prioritise the time to take a coffee break and get some air at lunchtime we grab something to eat and do so at our desk. 

Rather than switch off the computer and leave 'work' at a reasonable hour to get home and have some downtime in the evening, we feel like we can't because nothing would happen if we don't do the job in front of us now! 

Rather than get some nourishing food in for dinner, we eat whatever is in arms reach and wash it down with a glass or two of wine, and end up watching junk on TV, stress relief we say. 

I bet 6 months ago you were feeling like you are today, like something has to change, and yet nothing has, can you see that as the days, weeks, months and years go by … nothing changes ?? 

We just get fatter, lost in our businesses, in our day-to-day survival mode and while that is fun, the same level of success never quite makes it to our 'outer-shell', the figure, the confidence, the self appreciation and love, the self respect and ability to prioritise ourselves.
